Crocker bank robbery
As a result of the harsh blow to the organization caused by the loss of most of its members, the remaining SLA members decided to return to the Bay Area, and the protection of student radical households.
There were a number of new participants who gravitated toward the SLA. The active members included: Patty Hearst, Bill and Emily Harris, Wendy Yoshimura, Kathleen Soliah and her brother Steve Soliah, her boyfriend James Kilgore and Michael Bortin.
On April 28th 1975, the remaining members of the SLA robbed the Crocker National Bank in Carmichael, California. During the hold up, bystander Myrna Opsahl was shot and killed.
Much later, Patty Hearst told officials that she and Wendy Yoshimura were getaway drivers, William Harris and Steven Soliah were lookouts, and that Emily Harris, Kathleen Soliah, Michael Bortin and James Kilgore were the ones who actually took part in the robbery. She also said that it was Emily Harris who actually killed Myrna Opsahl, but that she wasn’t a direct witness.
