FOrmation of the Symbionese liberation army
Idea for the Symbionese Liberation Army came about as a result of the prison visitation programs of radical left wing groups in Soledad prison.
SLA formed after Donald DeFreeze escaped from Soledad prison. He took the name Cinque, which was originally the name of a leader of a slave rebellion who took over a slave ship in 1839. He shared living quarters with other radical left wingers named Willie Wolfe and Russel Little, and then met Patricia Soltysik. They all began to outline plans for the founding of the “Symbionese Nation”.
The founding members of the SLA include:
- Donald DeFreeze (General Field Marshal Cinque Mtume)
-Russell Little (Osceola or Osi)
- Joseph Remiro (Bo)
-Willie Wolfe (k
-Angela Atwood (General Gelina)
-Patricia Soltysik (Mizmoon or Zoya)
-Camilla Hall (Gabi)
-Nancy Ling Perry (Fahizah)
-Emily Harris (Yolanda)
-William Harris (General Teko) (eventual leader of the SLA upon the death of DeFreeze)
