hibernia bank robbery
The next action the SLA took was to rob a branch of the Hibernia Bank in San Francisco.
At 10:00 a.m. on April 15th, 1974, SLA members burst into the bank. They took $10,000 in cash. In the process of the robbery, 2 civilians were shot.
Security camera footage of the incident show that Hearst participated in the robbery, holding a rifle and yelling commands at the bank customers. Donald DeFreeze, Patricia Soltysik and Nancy Ling Perry were also pictured in the camera footage, with Patricia in possession of the sack of money and DeFreeze controlling the security guards of the bank. All three successfully escaped to a getaway car, driven by Camilla Christine Hall, another member of the SLA.
Later, when Hearst was caught, she was tried and convicted for her involvement in the Hibernia Bank robbery. She was sentenced to 35 years in prison, but her sentence was later commuted to two years by President Jimmy Carter. She was released from prison on February 1st, 1979, having served 22 months. She was later granted a full pardon by President Bill Clinton.
